ANDREW STURM
Andrew Sturm has more than 20 years experience in facilitation and design of organization/project specific retreats, workshops and trainings. His education in facilitation and interactive workshops started through architecture at the Detroit Collaborative Design Center (DCDC) in 2000, where he was a Design + Research Fellow and eventually Director of Design. At DCDC Andrew was trained in a rigorous approach to engage diverse groups in unearthing their deepest challenges and intentions, so that they could come together to solve them. He then went on to refine and apply what he learned across multiple industries and continents.
Andrew has worked all over the U.S. and in Africa, Central America and Europe in collaboration with numerous organizations and teams. The projects have varied from organizational design + branding in Dallas, TX to space + program design in Nairobi, Kenya. Andrew has worked with academic institutions, non-profits, neighborhoods, large companies, start ups, and everything in between.
Two key strengths of Andrew’s are his broad range of experience and human-centered approach to design + facilitation. In 2014 Andrew formed Public Works Studio, which is his consulting and creative practice. Public Works takes on many types of projects from workshop facilitation to design and art making, at scales large and small. The thread that weaves through all of Andrew’s work is that every project starts with listening to the intentions and needs of the stakeholders involved to identify what is holding them back, and how best to use the collective expertise in the room to move forward.
